Stacking multiple stacks of Jupiter

On the same night I took the previously posted images of Saturn I also took some images of Jupiter and finally got around to processing them. As with Saturn I took 5 sets of videos of the planet Jupiter. Each set consisted of 4 monochrome videos, using a Red, Green, Blue and UV filters respectively. The video rate was between 50 and 100 frames/second depending on the gain and exposure time needed the needed for each filter. Each of these separate videos was 1 minute long to avoid any rotational blurring of Jupiter when stacking the individual videos (with Note: with Saturn I used 2 minutes). Each video was then stacked using AutoStakkert and the best 60% of the frames were used in the stack. To compensate for the rotation of Jupiter between the videos the stacked frames for given set of filters were de-rotated using winJupos. The de-rotated images where then combined into an LRGB image (UV was used for the Luminace channel). This was done for all 5 sets of images. The timestamp for each LRGB image was keep and the 5 stacked images where then de-rotated and combined together to form a new image of Jupiter.
For those interested the images of Jupiter were taken with a Meade 16 inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope with an attached Barlow lens to give an effective focal length of ~8000mm. The camera used was a QHY 290 Monochome camera 2 mega pixel with 2.9 micron pixel size. The videos were taken just after midnight on 10-19-2023 PDT.
The seeing was only moderate but Jupiter was higher in the sky than Saturn when the videos were taken.

All questions comments and suggestions are welcome.

The first image shows Jupiter using a single set of images.
The second one shows the image stacking all 5 sets of images. This one clearly shows less noise and more detail in the image.

Well, I think the second image is sharper, at least on my display.

That giant light bucket is really struttin it's stuff with these planetary's.

So here again, more exposures does give more to the outcome.

I've upped my exposure numbers recently. The added darkness has helped.
(Now that I fixed the latest Windoze update. Windoze can't just update, it seems it has to chop the legs off some of my drivers, every time. So fickle and jealous is Windoze!)

Hi SonnyE
Thanks for checking out the images of Jupiter and for the comment. More data definitely helps improve the image with less grainy noise and sharper images. I have found this to be true for both planetary and deep sky images.

Windows can be a maze to use at times. Recently after an update all my icons kept getting shuffled, I would reset them and every few hours they would get reshuffled again. For some reason after the update the Auto arrange icons function got turned on and it seemed to scatter the icons all over the screen. It took me awhile to figure out what had happened as the changing of the icon arrangement on the screen seemed somewhat random and I first was worried about some computer virus and looked for that first. I didn't realize how goofy algorithm must be for the auto Arrange "feature", (It should probably be called the auto disarrange feature).

I managed to shut off the updates on my desk top computer.
But when I began trying it with the laptop, I backed out of it last night.
It was busy running the mount and after a week of head scratching to fix what yet another poorly done Windoze update did I wanted to get some run time in.
But I plan on going through the video again on my laptop.
Even if it does make me talk like some geek from India.
🤯

Got to be better than Windows messing up my computer.

IOn the side topicv in this thread of Windows upates to 11 giving problems, I have a few questions. First, I have been using
Win 10 and 11 since Win 10 came out as an update to Win8.`. I was actually using Vista until I upgraded to Win 10. And I haqve not had any major problems from updates.

So, I am wondering, how old are the computers you are now using with which you have problems with updating on a regular basis? Also, do you have some proprietary software that has not been kept updated by its publishers? Therse are two usual problems behind updates to Win 10 and 11 not behaving well. Another issue could be how much RAM your computers have and what CPU it is running.

Just trying to comprehend the source of problems that others say they have with Win 11. --Richard

Hi profbowman
The recent issue I had was on windows 10 since I cannot update it to windows 11 without changing some of the hardware. I general I haven't had to many issues with windows, this recent problem is the first in a long time. I do have a number of freeware programs that windows warns me about when I install them (e.g. winJPOS), but this last issue seemed to be a glitch that happen when windows updated (maybe coincidental). This particular system is around 5 years old and has 64gig of RAM and a 16 core AMD THread Ripper CPU that I use for my image processing I wouldn't expect it to be the problem.

Amazing--at least to me. Thanks for posting these shots as well as those of Saturn.

Hi nervous2
Thanks for checking out the images of Jupiter and for the comment. I'm still learning to take and process these images and will hopefully get better at it as time goes by and I get some shots on a really steady night.

Pretty much anytime an update comes through, I have trouble with my cameras. And usually updating my drivers for the brand fixes it.
I checked and sure enough, a Windows 11 update rolled in on 11-02-23. I got it fixed yesterday, so been having the problems about 5 days.
7 - 5 = 2. Um huh.
Near as I can figure, Windows doesn't like my ASI cameras. But I'm learning to live with it.
I removed the software for ASI Studio, and removed and reinstalled ASCOM. Then downloaded and ran The Trio for my ASI cameras.
And Suddenly...it was working for me! I did some daytime test runs and it worked fine again. And it ran fine last night.
Typical of Winduhs updates. But not my first rodeo. Windows update are hit and miss with their updates.
Ever notice how they release some "Critical update, then release a bunch of updates to fix their update? If the over stressed code bangers could get it right, they wouldn't need fixes for their fixes.

Windows doesn't like anything that doesn't come from the Windows App Store, in my experience.
But it isn't just me, acquaintance's on Cloudy Nights seem to like shutting down the updates for a more reliable experience, too. Some of them still run Windows 7.
I'm usually near the cutting edge. But the price is some hair and bone along with the blood.

Actually, been living with Windows since Win 3.10 in the early mid-1990s. Pretty much since before Al Gore claimed he invented the Internet.
I worked at a very progressive facility and we were encouraged to learn computers. The Admins wanted the Internet so they worked towards that end.

OK, as usual, we are way away from Jupiter now. Suffices to say Windows messed it up, and Sonny had to fix his again. Never a dull moment in space.

Sorry Ballard for cluttering up your post.
