Good start, Karen, thanks for hosting another challenge.

I have missed getting a copy of the November challenge calendar. Does anyone have a copy or a link that they wouldn't mind sharing with me. I sure will appreciate.

I know that the 'challenge' is 'special effects' and I'm sure that we're going to see a lot of pictures where there's been some 'post processing', that is digital editing, and while there's nothing wrong with that, this is not where I'm going with this challenge. Rather, the pictures that I'm going to showcase for this 'challenge', all of the so-called 'special effects', except in two cases, were done IN the camera, and to make this even more interesting, ALL of the shots that I've going to post were shot on FILM.

Now these 'effects' range from using lens of different focal lengths, exposure, angle of attack, add-on accessories, etc.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the collection.

This was a time-exposure with the lens pointed at Polaris (AKA, the North Star) taken near Lewiston, Michigan - July 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm

This shot used a lens accessory, which you added like a filter, except that it was made up of glass 'prisms' which produced multiple images. The shot was of a bunch of trophies in Mount Pleasant, Michigan - May 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm

This shot shows the telephoto effect when the subject, in this case, a series of rail cars, stretches away from the camera, taken near Houghton, Michigan - September 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 135mm

Before drones, when you wanted an aerial shot, you had to actually go up into the air, in this case, in a helicopter. This is a shot of my home town, Lewiston, Michigan, so small I didn't even need a wide-angle lens - July 1968 - Minolta SR-1, 55mm
Before drones, when you wanted an aerial shot, you...

This is an example of how you could reverse-mount a normal lens to get a macro effect, in this case a nice Red flower - July 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm (reversed)

Here's my next set of 'special effect' images from the era of film:

Here's an example of shooting in close, from a low-angle, using a wide-angle lens, resulting in an interesting composition, in this case, of chess pieces - April 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 35mm
Here's an example of shooting in close, from a low...

Another example of shooting from a low-angle, at least in a relative sense, with a wide-angle lens, in this case, a tall academic building on the campus of Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, Michigan - May 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 35mm
Another example of shooting from a low-angle, at l...

An example where you expose to create just a silhouette of your subject, in this case, some trees at sunset, on the shore of Lake Superior near Houghton, Michigan - August 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm
An example where you expose to create just a silho...

Another example of reverse-mounting a lens to get a macro-effect, in this case a telephoto lens, which results in an even greater magnification - October 1969 - Minolta SRT-101, 135mm (reversed)
Another example of reverse-mounting a lens to get ...

Another example of the telephoto-effect when the subject stretches away from the lens, in this case, the structure of the Cut River Bridge, near Epoufette, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - July 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 135mm
Another example of the telephoto-effect when the s...

And my last set of 'special effect' images from the era of film:

This was shot using a 'fisheye' lens that I was testing in a camera shop in Saginaw, Michigan - September 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 12mm fisheye
This was shot using a 'fisheye' lens that I was te...

Another one of those low-angle shots using a wide-angle lens, in this case, a smoke stack at an old Ford Motor Company sawmill in Pequaming, located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - September 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 35mm
Another one of those low-angle shots using a wide-...

Now this is actually TWO 35mm slides, in a single mount, one of a building (see next image) and one of a sunset, taken somewhere else - September 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm
Now this is actually TWO 35mm slides, in a single ...

This is the original slide, well one of them, used to create the previous composite image, which was of the old Ford Motor Company sawmill in Pequaming, located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - September 1970 - Minolta SRT-101, 58mm
This is the original slide, well one of them, used...

This is a shot, of a 'slap-shot', by a college hockey player. The 'special effect' here was that this shot was only possible by pushing Kodak TRI-X B&W film to ASA 1600 during development - January 1971 - Minolta SRT-101, 135mm
This is a shot, of a 'slap-shot', by a college hoc...

Here are a few of mine.

Using a device that I made back in the 70s, held over the front of the lens.
Used for wedding, portrait, landscape, street, and even some architectural.

Also, a few pp effects with cars.
The mustang was shot on a sunny day in mid-afternoon.

Thanx for the challenge idea.

Thanks for hosting, Karin. I like to create special effects too. This was "special" but not necessarily in the effects. My husband wanted a side by side pic. He is on the left as a teen in front of their old garage on his Indian Patrol "bike". He wanted to try and re-create the scene (no more access to the garage) with our grandson who was about the age husband was in the pic. Grandson is on the same bike - which my husband had sold many years prior and later found it and restored it. It was a challenge - background not same or similar, angling the bike etc. It took hours and many tries, but this was the result..

I do quite a bit of effects shooting but like @oldCADuser my effects are nearly all in camera.

I did use the computer about as much as I ever do on this one (to rotate, desaturate & boost the contrast).
