Yesterday while stacking out the wood pile a pair of Pileated Wood Peckers played tag around a large old, oak tree.
The Pileated Wood Pecker is North America's largest Woodpecker, about the same size as a crow. The actuall inspiration for Woody the Woodpecker came from troublesome Acorn Woodpecker. The Woodpecker had interrupted the honeymoon of Walter Lantz , an animation artist and his new bride. Lantz got even by making Woody a Pileated Woodpecker. ( some sources wrongly cite Woody as an Ivory Billed Woodpecker)

Sound like him to. With 2 of them playing tag around the tree they made quite a racket. An enjoyable racket.
Great shot of Woody. They are attractive woodpeckers
Interesting story and nice shot. I've never seen one, but I have heard them.
