The American Ornithological Society, which is responsible for standardizing English bird names across the Americas, announced plans Wednesday to ditch any bird classifications derived from a person’s name, instead identifying them by their physical traits or their habitats.

This should make things interesting trying to identifying birds we see.

AOU has been overtaken by woke ideology to. They have been slowly leading up to this move for the last 50 years. First Cornell changes the taxonomic order now AOU changes common names. I'm going to go back to calling Peregrine Falcons Duck Hawks, Merlins Pigeon Hawks and American Kestrels Sparrow Hawks.

If they change the names of the birds, how will they know each other? And will they be able to change genders?

As I read the notice, they are changing the names that celebrate "racists", "exploiters" etc! So no more Lewis's Wood pecker. Lewis, for those who don't know, was one half of the leaders of the Lewis and Clark expedition. I have read their journals. Maybe the "leaders" of the AOU should read them. I WILL keep the original names in my daily use!! The AOU can take a flying leap into that growing pile of WOKE dung!!
And, I'm sure, that if the AOU has anything to say about it, none of the birds they rename will HAVE a gender. That's a dirty word only spoken by un-WOKE, unfortunate people.!!!

AOU started this garbage many years ago. There had at least been some logic to it then. Among other things they changed the name of the Audubon's Warbler to Yellow-rumped Warbler and Liechtenstein's Oriole to Black-headed Oriole because they were more "descriptive". But even then they didn't change Richardson's Sapsucker, or Steller's Jay or even Audubon's Oriole.

It is kind of sad to see the scientific community jump on the woke band wagon but I guess that's the world we are leaving to our grand kids. Maybe it's time to learn Latin.
