Not all kids are 'Honor' students.
I had one that was studying to be an Astronaut.
She was taking up 'Space' in school!

Reading, mathematics and writing scores on standardized test have little to do with grades. There may be a correlation between the two, but standardized tests do not determine honor rolls in schools. Grades determine honor roll qualifications.

You are correct. How low is the bar for honor roll if you can be on it and not be able to read or do arithmetic. This isn’t to say that there are no good school and students, there are. The problem is that major population areas do not serve the disadvantaged. Perhaps they should give performance bonuses to good teachers and fire the bad ones. Just my opinion.

Is everyone enrolled in school an "Honor Student"? If I read about a kid who was killed, and he was an "Honor Student." In today's paper, an "Honor Student" (16) who is a gang member was sentenced to seven years in prison for the brutal beating of another student in school.

From the newspaper - "...in retaliation for a shooting just prior to the May 3 attack between a member of the Apes subset of the Bloods street gang and a member of Sex, Money, Murder, another subset of the Bloods."

It's a shame that the Bloods can't get along. Why can't all gang members be friends? 🤣
Is everyone enrolled in school an "Honor Stud... (show quote)

Some words today are just words. They have NO meaning any more. An "honor student" in my day was a straight A student, also an upstanding student who participated in civic projects, who would never be in a "gang," in other words was a clean cut youngster.

I recently read an article about a high school that claimed 78% of its students were on the Honor Roll😳

Excellent!

We had a local kid who didn't care about school because he planned to go to the NBA. Then he ruined his knee.

Every kid in trouble has a grandmother who assures the public that the kid is a wonderful person who didn't deserve to be arrested, shot, etc. He had to be holding the drugs for someone else, etc.

Your comments are glittering generalizations. It's not all that way! I have three grandchildren who would make any parent/grandparent proud. Please don't indite the entire generation.

It isn’t the generation he was denigrating I don’t think…but the teachers. A great number of parents these days don’t parent their kids but want to be their friends instead. Compound that with the issues in the classroom of participation trophies, no discipline, and no failing a student and you end up with a lot of entitled people. Good parents and grand parents means well behaved kids who grow into responsible adults but alas, there are a lot of adults whose parents and schools failed them.

Lowered standards in a lot of cases. Parochial and other private schools are generally but not always better than the public schools…but the school boards, principals, teachers, and teachers unions are in a lot of cases failing the kids.

In trial moms usually testify about what an upstanding perfect child and he couldn’t possibly have committed the crime alleged. Once through her testimony the question is one line. “How long has he been your son?” “No further questions Your Honor”. The jury generally smiled and the point was made.

No, it's the parents.
