Girls’ night soccer last week. D500, f2.8, 70-200mm, auto ISO, auto WB . Comments welcome.
Not sure why some of these were not marked “download” as I selected “store original” for all. Paul

Good action shots! Curious as to what the auto ISO ended up being. Is #8 the intentional subject for a lot of these or just happen to be around the action a bit more? Good job!

Thanks. I never noticed that ! Number 8 was simply part of the action Rick. ISO turned out to be 6400.

I've had a couple of outings (in different sports) where the same player appeared in a lot of my shots. I do try to get shots of every player, but sometimes one just happens to be in the middle of the action. Either due to their position or the fact they just seem to be more active. The ISO worked out great for you. Again - good job!

Paul,

Enjoyed the series, especially the 4th photo on the challenge between the players! You did great using your 70-200mm lens. I get some keepers with my 70-200mm but they are within 20yds of my lens and in soccer, that doesn't happen that often. Murphy's law, when you change your shooting position, the play goes to the farthest reaches of the pitch away from your position!

Thanks for sharing,
Rick

Rick you are so right about going to a new position the action goes to the other side of the field. Always happens to me. I have been in a position by another photographer and nothing is close to us. They will mention that, and I will tell them to hold on and I will get them for you. So I go where they are and they go to the other photog. Every time. I used to be able to chase the action but the knees keep me not moving very much. When I first stated photography in football a team would be moving the ball and I would say after the next play I am going to the end zone. Well, Hells Bells They would always score on that play. Took me a long time to finally get it right, But from then on when I thought that I hoofed it to the end zone. Didn't miss the plays anymore. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Hi Paul
Number three is spot on. Tight-colors brilliant doesn’t get any better. Rick is correct 20 yards in that’s it or your image quality will start to suffer.
Very nice work.

I just noticed your shooting with a D500. Do you have a full frame camera?
At 100% image quality will suffer unless your shooting very tight in camera. Maxpreps looks at all photos at 100%. I hope this helps.
