One of my friends and a mentor sent me this photograph of a jumper either eating or mating with another spider. I asked if I could post it here to get the opinion of others/experts who might know what is going on. Does anyone have any idea if it is one spider eating another or are they mating or what?

Looks like it is in the process of molting. Looks like shed skin to me. God photo.

Hmmmmm. Thank you very much Brian. I did not think of that. I know my friend did not either. I did not know spiders molt. I will pass it along.

Good picture! But this is most definitely predation. I can't quite identify the victim, but it is in a different spider family.
The cast skin of a molting jumping spider looks like a jumping spider, and they molt while hanging vertically on a dragline.

Me thinks two things...... It's an old pre mating ritual - the 8 legged salsa

or, most likely, it's the female rescuing her mate after an hour of shopping for bugs..........
