Black and White at Night

I'm not crazy about how the top of the photo ended up. The original has the top of the fountain; but it looks funny because the top of the building rendered in black as well. I may have to play around with it some more. For now the cut off top of the fountain is a compromise. I also wish they had turned the fountain on. As I was driving to the location, I kept imagining it with the fountain on.

Without the fountain being on, I see just dark shapes of a sculpture of some sort. This image feels like ones I often attempt: too many stories in the frame The pattern of windows and reflections on the left side are gorgeous, and I think the "sculpture" could be a photo in itself, though with a little more detail pulled from the blacks and perhaps a bit more white.

I think you are on to something, Linda. The right side and the dark fountain don't really match up with the left side. Maybe I can try a crop that would feature the patterns and the reflections on the left. Off to Lightroom. Thanks for the input.

I pretty much agree with Linda on this one Erich. Would be another story had the fountain been on.

The fountain looks a bit out of place with the clean architectural lines, not much you can do about it.
But the image just looked a little off to me. The image looked a little askew to me so I had a little play with the perspective tool in Affinity 2 and found what I feel a more perpendicular image.

I'll post with permission but not until.

I'd love to see what you came up with. You definitely have my permission to post the edit. Thank you for your input. I'm not really all that pleased with this and something has to be done to improve it, so any input is appreciated and valued.

Here it is, off to play Pickleball, caught me just in time.

I think a better editor might have allowed me to be more selective on the right hand side.

Thanks. looks good. I think I still might crop out the fountain. I'll give it a few days and then go back to it. Thanks for the edit.

John’s modification looks good to me Erich - I think the geometric form of the building requires that straighter perspective. As far as the fountain goes, I’m with Linda, there’s too much going on that cannot be discerned. It probably does need to be a separate image, and complete, and perhaps with a water-drop overlay to spring it into action!

Very good points and I like the water-drop idea. This is one of those images that I love having because the subject is not that far away and, when I look at the photo, it reminds me that I should drive out there again soon and do it right in the first place. Maybe bring my 35mm PC control lens and the F5? Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the input.

A variation could be flipping the image horizontally. Cropping away the former upper region from the line of the floor to the new top.

I sent you a pm regarding another aspect of your photography interest Erich, not sure if you’ve read it? It concerns ICM.
