And in commemoration of the first snowfall of the season at my alma mater, Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, Michigan, as seen in the first image below, which was taken on Saturday from one of the campus webcams, I'm going to post some images showing what winter conditions are like in and around the school. The reason that I've been watching the weather there is because our #4 granddaughter, who was born in Dallas and grew-up in Houston, has just started school there and this is basically the first time that she'll experience a true Michigan winter.
Note that she attended two summer youth STEM programs on campus in 2021 and 2022, which was when she decided that that was where she wanted to go to school. She applied for and won a 'Leading Scholar' scholarship which will cover all her tuition for four years. She graduated from high school with 46 AP credits, which were enough for her to start college as a second semester sophomore. She's majoring in chemistry, and with her AP physics credits, all she needs is nine credits of 300/400 level physics to get a minor in physics.
Saturday morning she texted me a picture of her out catching snowflakes and she says that she's really enjoying the cooler weather (she runs 2 to 3 miles a day).
Anyway, here are some pictures of what the snow is like in Houghton, most of which were taken when I was getting my engineering degree there:
