We had a nice sunrise this morning. Not spectacular, but nice. It took me about 8 minutes to get from our house to my vantage point (not the one I wanted, but time was of the essence) and in that time I lost most of the sunrise. Pioneer Peak (6800’ elevation) on the right, and the far left tall peak is Mt. Marcus Baker at just shy of 14,000’ elevation. To the right of that peak, but out of sight is the Knik Glacier and glacial bowl consisting of several other glaciers. Iphone 13 Pro Max. I couldn’t crop the house out of the shot without ruining the photo. Your comments appreciated regarding the full or cropped image.

I like the lake as it adds an element of interest, but the house can go. I know, it's mostly a package deal and not worth the investment in time to remove it

You sure live in a pretty place, Greg!

Ok, I took a few seconds and used the healing tool in Snapseed to clone out the house. How’s this?

Or: How’s this? I cropped the image on the left a bit and from the bottom to reduce the large dark area. To me it looks more balanced. And there’s still a bit of the lake.

Awesome, now if you could just move the lake over about three inches.

Please don't, I am totally pulling your leg. It's better without the house.

Glad you liked these. It was fun to play around with the images a bit. I didn’t care so much for the first shot where I just cloned out the house. It just created this huge black area that occupied half of the photo. So I sacrificed a bit on the left and cropped some of the foreground out to reduce all that black, but still keeping part of the lake. I could go back into it and restore some of the lake, but I don’t know how that would look changing the aspect ratio to one that would be much wider, but narrower top to bottom.

I like them, especially the last, if you crop down on the sky. To just above the bright orange.

Maybe. Just a quick look at doing that gives it a sort of panoramic photo look. I think I’d have to crop out a fair amount on either side and, since this is an iPhone photo, it might start losing detail. It’s fun to play around with, though. Glad you like them. Thanks.

Leaving part of the lake was a good compromise. You were right, there was too much black space without the house.

Roger that. It’s an image that can be played around with. I’m pretty happy with the last version.

Nice finds, Greg, and I like the house and its light; they give the photo a sense of place, a sense of reality.
