The Patriot Guard Riders begun in 2005 has grown to include thousands of members across all 50 states in the US.
We honor our military veterans and first responders by as our motto says "Standing for those stood for us"
I'm proud to say I have been a member of this fine organization since 2006. Membership is purely voluntary and open to all. Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family.

There are many motorcyclists but you absolutely do not have to be a motorcyclist to participate.

Years ago when that religious group would protest at the funerals of military personnel killed in action, part of the "duties" of the Patriot Guard was to stand between the protestors and the family so that the family was shielded, as much as possible, from the protestors signs and hurtful comments.

That is still a part of the Patriot Guard mission although thank goodness those protestors have been few and far between. The religious group was called the Westboro or Westborough Baptist Church not sure of the spelling.
They were/are about as far from being a religious group as any group could be. Just cruel and vicious would be more like it.

Good for you, Stan. I can imagine that you have been been to services where there haven't been many people in attendance and the addition of the Patriot Riders helped to provide the recognition and respect the deceased individual deserved.

Yes, it's true.The service where I took this photo had only a half dozen or so from family or friends in attendance. We definitely outnumbered them.
