Photos from Aus.
Leeman is a small coastal town in the Shire of Coorow.
Land was first surveyed and sub-divided in 1961 and the townsite was gazetted in 1961 as Snag Island, a name that is still in common use. Snag Island is a rocky island a small distance off-shore from the town.
The town was named after Abraham Leeman, a Dutch sailor, who visited the area in 1658 in search of the wreckage of the Gilt Dragon that was lost two years earlier. Leeman was in charge of the shore party to conduct a search and was abandoned when a storm blew in. Leeman and his crew then took a six-month open boat voyage to Batavia.
Caught this whale constantly breaching just off shore in my local area.

Whale breaching.
As usual love your photos and explanations
But
What constitutes a 'Shire' ??
We have villages, towns, cities and states are divided into counties.

In Australia a Shire is a Local Government area also called a Council area. For example, I live in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney which is one of the local Council areas in Sydney.

OK - I live in Rochester, which is in Stafford County in New Hampshire. I live in Ward 3 for voting within the city.
