Have you ever had a vendor ship you the product BEFORE paying for it? Well, here's the story of one such. It's "Ehrlich's Date Garden" in Yuma, AZ.
My wife and I love dates, both the kind you go on, and the kind you eat. Well, every year typically around Oct or Nov, we call to Ehrlich's Date Garden to place our order. This year we ordered 40 lbs of dates, the price quoted was $210.00 including shipping. We always offer our credit card, but they always says NO...when you receive the dates there will be an invoice inside and just send us a check. That's what we've done for at least the last 10 years.
WOW! Talk about a trusting vendor!
By the way, dates are seasonal. We can only order during harvesting season.
Bobby John it is a well known fact that people who like both kinds of dates are honest and trustworthy.
This is an old axiom! (That I just made up!)
Enjoy you’re dates!
They are saving money by not paying credit card fees. This probably offsets any losses they incur selling to dishonest people. Sounds like a good policy to me.

I was driving through a small town in WV a couple of weeks ago when I stopped at this little country store that had two ancient gas pumps on the backside of the store. I told the person at the counter I needed gas and he asked how much I wanted. When I told him I didn't know, I just wanted to fill the tank, he told me to fill up and come back in to pay. That doesn't happen too often nowadays.

Good to know there are still businesses that operate on a trust basis. They are few for sure. By the way, will you set up a date to enjoy your dates?
I used to order wild rice from a place that operated in the same fashion. I once asked the owner if anyone had ever 'stiffed' him on an order. He said : "Yup, one guy did and he left town thereafter. But he eventually came back and I collected."
People are generally honest when given the chance.
In the 40's & early 50's, my Dad's independent small food market, sold dates, figs, persimmons, ... Every X-Mas season, we made a special display of those fruits. I began working in the store at nine years of age. I loved being there.

We ran a farm stand. Occasionally someone would come in without money and we didn’t take credit cards. We kept a few pieces of paper in the register and asked them to sign for it. One guy was in a hurry so the cashier just wrote down “man with suit”.
The man came back the next day and paid.

In Denmark it is not at all uncommon to find an unmanned roadside stand for vegetables and fruit. On it you will find a price list and an old cigar box in which to put your money, in addition to the merchandize. You pay in cash and do your own exchange if you don't have exact change. It is a quite wide spread custom which suggests that people generally are honest.

I had occasion to order some friction primers for a black powder cannon a few years ago. They were just shipped with an invoice. (This is a VERY niche market in the US, with only a couple of suppliers that I could find and I'm sure that almost all product goes to Civil War reenactors.)

In the 40’s/early 50’s my Dad owned a small independent food market. Mr. & Mrs. DeRosa were among our oldest and loyal customers. Every Sat they would come to our store and order their weekly list of foods. Same order every week. One day Mr. DeRosa explained he had lost his job. My Dad told him not to worry and added, your order will be delivered to your home every week. Pay me when you can. We delivered the order every week for two years. Eventually Mr DeRosa paid his bill.

My grandfraised gladiolus on his small farm and would put them out by the mailbox which was about 200 feet from the house. People would stop and get the flowers and leave the correct money in a box. This was in the 1930s and early 1940s. People are basically honest.
