We lived across the street from a local grocer, and he was the "Master of The Thumb", but he sold really good meats. Mom caught him early on, and he never tried to cheat her after that.

I think this is a Leslie Thrasher illustration — not a Rockwell.

BTW, in reading several of the above, it turns out that Leslie is a male, not female, as given by the pronouns in the articles found by Google. See, pronouns really ARE important to the English language. Can't change 'em without diluting the language.

This reminds my of many of the sketches by Norman Rockwell. Underhanded mis-givings were kinda the norm in many of his works as well.
