About Nikon Z50: How to get focus box to stay in center

Hello all,
If any of you are using the Nikon Z50 perhaps you can help.
Despite all its bells and whistles (don’t misunderstand, I love this camera. Before it I relied on the Nikon D 800 and I still love that also) most often I prefer to take my time and shoot in manual. So I have selected my settings and I prefer to use the small vertical rectangle that is green but turns blue when it finds focus. Once I find focus with the button half suppressed I recompose my image, press the button down completing my shot. Then I lower the camera to check the image. Problem is my little green focus rectangle has run away, no longer in the center. Sometimes it nests in the bottom left corner, sometimes the top right corner.

My question: Is there a way I can make the focus box stay put in the middle? Or, at least the last place I left it?

Thanks, in advance

Hello all, br If any of you are using the Nikon Z... (show quote)

I don't own it but, try the ok-center button in the middle of the selector pad on the back of the camera. On some Nikons it recenters the focus point. Anything in your user manual?

Can you select the focus point on the touchscreen? it sounds like you're inadvertently shifting the focus point by accidentally touching the screen. If that's the case you should be able to disable the touchscreen focus point selection.

I have the same problem with my Z7, my thumb rests on the button and moves it around, haven't figured out how to lock in the center yet but that may be where your problem originates.

Here you go...I don't think there is any way to lock it on centre though. If it's off centre, just press the OK button and it will instantly return to the centre.
Cheers,
Ron.

sounds like that should be a Nikon update, it doesnt take a very fat thumb to accidently move it, one of the real pet peeves for me on my Z7

Thank you all responded.
I got it.
Know it jumps to the middle 😊
I’ve read the pdf manual more than once, I’ve watched three photogs show their favorite setting. One, I’m dyslexic and two unless I use information over and over it doesn’t stay. Now at 78 those attributes are ever worse.
So I thank you all for your thoughtful help.

I have that camera and I have the same problem.
Every once in a while I look and the focus is off in the corner and I have been taking pictures with the wrong settings.
I have to remember to hit the center button every once in a while.
It is frustrating.

Yes, I’ve been practicing hitting the center button 1st.

I have puzzled over the same issue. I have the Zfc. It is physically smaller than my D500. That camera body has room on the back for my thumb, but the Z does not. So this is probably what is happening. When you turn your camera to look at the image on the Z50 your thumb naturally ends up pressing on the multi selector, which changes the focus point without you realizing why. To my knowledge there is no way to lock out the multi-selector, so just try to keep your thumb of off of it. It turns out to be a real challenge if your hands are larger like mine. It took me months to figure out what was happening. It still happens, but now I know why!
