On our way to Hilton Head Island from Savannah, for the first time in a while, the view road through the refuge was open. It had been closed for repairs and maintenance for at least two years. The 45 square mile refuge is bisected by a highway that leads directly from the Savanah airport to the back door to Hilton Head.

This set shows our first view from the refuge trail through the iconic low country moss covered trail.

It is, Jack, and nice to have that drive finally open again.

As long as I've been going to savannah, I've never gone to that refuge area. Your work with this post has inspired me to go there the next time I'm in Savannah. Thanks for the heads up, Mike.

Thanks, Don, that "low country" look really appeals to us. It is all over Hilton Head and the island.

Beautiful photos Mike. That Spanish moss may not be so good for trees but it sure is good for photography!

Whenever I make a mental image of the natural parts of Georgia, I conjure up just about exactly what your photos look like. So as far as I'm concerned, Mike, you smashed the ol' nail right on its head.
