First hockey game of the year for me. Getting used to pairing the Z9 with the Tamron 35-150, especially the lighting as I try to put it through its paces. But I really like it. It has enough reach to catch action as it approaches the goal and can open up to get the action as it comes racing to the glass! Most of these shot at either 1/1000 or 1/1250 in shutter priority as wide open as the lens would allow. (f2 - f2.2). Same with ISO, but most around 2000.

Very nice set. Are you shooting through the 'glass' rink protection?

Yes, I am. I can set up so I am right against the glass.

I really like the third shot. You did great on your first game. Like all of us the timing may have been off a bit. I shot my first game last week and found myself not pulling the trigger when I should have and missed the play.
Again good stuff.

Great shots Rick. Do you use a rubber lens shade to keep from getting glare from the glass?

I use "something". It depends upon the lens. If I have a rubber hood, I will place the hood either up against or very close. If I don't, I generally shoot 6" or less from the glass. The biggest thing I do is to shoot as straight on as I am able as that really helps. Shooting through the glass at an angle even with the lens less than that distance can introduce the glare of which you speak. Regardless of a rubber hood or hard one, I watch very closely and pull back when I see players on the verge of hitting the glass. Even when it is about an inch thick, it is amazing how much flex there is!
