2 SD Cards

Some cameras have 2 card slots with the same type of card in each.
I download a card to my computer, verify it is downloaded and do the following:
take the second card out move it from slot 2 to slot 1.
Take the former slot 1 card and put into slot 2.
Then reformat both cards.
This way each slot is being used equally.
Works for me and who knows if necessary but that is what I wanted to do.
Do others do something different?
I know that those with 2 different types of cards cannot do this so they do not need to comment.

Do you mean each card is being used equally?

How can they be used equally?
One is just a card storage/holder and not used until you move it to the primary clot...
This makes no sense.
As to reformat both? Why?

Now, it works for you, great.

....

If slot one is basically only used (second slot not so much), swapping the cards will use them like A, then B, then A again, then B,.....
Basically alternating cards.

Only one of my cameras has two SD Slots. I keep a 64GB in each slot. But I usually only use the #1 card and keep the other for overflow of 36MP RAW if that ever happens. Has never come close so far. Also the second card is there in case the first card dies. The camera works fine with only one card (as far as I can tell). My other 4 cameras have only one card. That has never been a problem so far.

Yes, both used equally.
Both are recording raw only at the same time.
They get rotated every down load so each alternate doing the download.
If I need to share immediately I just send the photos from the camera to my cellphone then share immediately from the location to whomever I wish.

My method is to have a large capacity storage card in the second slot. It is set up as backup. Once my photos from card one are downloaded and backed up I format card one in the camera. The card in slot 2 is monitored and when it reaches capacity it is removed and replaced with a new high capacity card and the full one is stored as another form of back up. This is the method I started using about a year ago. Before I would format both cards once the photos were downloaded and backed up.

I am debating purchasing a fireproof safe and storing those full cards there or trying to decide if it would it be better to put in the safe deposit box at the bank.

Now I’m confused. If as you say “both are recording raw at the same time”, they each have equal writes, so what’s the advantage of swapping them if they’re used equally? Downloading data from a card does not cause “wear” and formatting it is a very small write so the “wear” is minimal. SD cards, like SSDs are NAND Flash devices and experience “wear’ from write /erase cycles, but since a typical SD card is capable of 100,000 writes, you have to use one pretty heavily for quite awhile to exceed the write/erase limit.

Thankful I only have one card slot.
Life's incomplex.

Sounds silly.
I would just tell my camera to record to slot 2.
However my goal is to push a card until it fails, then use another one.
I expect that the camera will give up first.

I would lean to an offsite storage facility like a bank. Fireproof safes come with different ratings and although papers in the safe won't burn, high temperatures could affect the cards.

Agree, I never use cards as storage but have a computer and 2 hard drives until full then get 2 more and keep on trucking.
Computer only has perhaps 3 of the most recent years on it (I don't do thousands a year) then the oldest is deleted.
Mainly for ease of looking and using the most recent so I do not have to go to the external drives.
But just wondering how those with identical twin cards manage them.
