This pelican was taking off.
I guess that it is a white pelican, but you don't see many of them in this area, they are more to the south.

Nice capture. Lots of White Pelicans in SLO Co CA. Flocks of them around Pismo and Avila Beaches. Morro Bay too.
We have Brown Pelicans too.

Thank you. Here we have mostly brown. South of us, around San Jose, there are a lot of whites. Sometimes they come up here, but rarely.

Thank you.
I see mostly brown around here, but I was confused by his white. As a matter of fact, almost all are brown. And he was in a group of brown.

Consider cropping something like 16:10 and removing the foreground clutter, giving more (complete) emphasis on the pelican.

I was going to do that, but I thought that this gave a little more sense of place.

I've even seen some taking a long break in one of Chicago's southwest suburbs - and it was sure shocking

How is this, I think that you are right.

Maybe the original gives more cropping / aspect options? Or instead, a bit of cloning replacement against the edge-of-frame distractions? Everyone has their own approach, style and vision. For me, when I open the attachment and click to the 1:1 details, thus removing the bottom edge, I see an image I prefer. There's a scratch (?) down the left side too, like a scan?

Edit: I see the update now. A bit too close, I think, with the wing tips clipped. But, yes, something like this re-crop.

I think that you are right. The bottom doesn't add anything to the picture after all. It is all about the pelican.

I went back to the original and kept the wings from touching.
