This is a focused stacked image of a wheel bug gifted to me by my grandson who collects specimens for me. They are assassin bugs that prey upon a wide variety of insects and are one of the few insects that prey on the brown marmorated stink bug which are agricultural terrorists. They are also valuable predators in forests and shade trees because they prey on the well-protected hairy caterpillars that are defoliators.
I staged this session with a Schneider Kreuznach Componon "S" 50mm f/2.8 enlarger lens (reverse mounted) directly on the Fujifilm X-T20 mirrorless camera. The 204 images in the stack were processed in Zerene Stacker to produce the image posted.
Such excellent work, Gary!
Too bad he ended up in your collection but a great shot anyway

Your specimens are fascinating and it wonderful that your grandson is helping you with your projects.
That is so neat, so sharp. When I looked up assassin bug for one of my threads there was a photo of this guy but not nearly as well done a photo as yours is. As I recall it also said these things do have a bite and should not be handled. I guess the dead ones are OK to handle.

The download is pretty awesome.
Exceptional image; especially in download.
Another incredible shot, Sippy! I'm glad I don't live at the same size scale as his victims do!
Terrific image! I never heard of this bug before. But it sounds like a useful one to have around.

You've got a very handy grandson, Gary. He gets you great specimens, and you do your great thing with them. I really like the color and texture of this guy.
