Topaz AI Processing Time

I had mixed feeling about where to post this and felt that "Main Photography Discussion" was where I had seen the most about using Topaz so that is where I put it. Not gonna break my heart if ADMIN has a different opinion and moves it.

Trying to use Topaz AI to process some pictures, where I was changes some switches and sliders, and I thought a lot of my time was waiting for the PC/Topaz AI to adjust the picture based on my changes.

I have been at the point that I had GAS re. getting a new PC... have just acquired same... and I thought I would run a time test.

At this point, I have 3 PCs, a laptop and 2 desktops. I started with the laptop and the older PC and selected a 72 picture assortment (all JPGs). The JPGs are a wide assortment of pictures taken with 3 different Canon cameras and some that were scanned (some by me and home and some by a professional lab). After they were drag-and-dropped on to Topaz AI 2.0.4 I just pressed the buttons to perform default program processing and save the files. Then, I installed Topaz on the new desktop PC, deauthorized the Topaz AI copy on the old desktop (only 2 at a time are allowed) and ran the same files on the new desktop PC.

Result is... it makes a hell of a difference. I think I will be more inclined to use Topaz and not feel like I am spending too much time at it.

PCs and times below. The system descriptions are the parts that I feel made the difference in running Topaz AI. By the way, a new version of Topaz is out now... but I was not going to re-run all the files so I stuck with v 2.0.4 for all of the cases:

Yup! I believe it.
Our new (month old) desktop that replaced a 12 year old unit running Win 7 runs lickety split!
More powerful processor and faster clock speed.
My backups take half as long as they did on the old desktop.

With Topaz, video card throughput is the main culprit/hero.

One thing I like about these tools is being able to set up the work and then go off to walk around, drink coffee and generally attend to other things for a spell before coming back to see the results.

Thanks. I did expect faster times with new PC but was surprised at how much faster.

By the way, the old desktop PC exceeded the minimum requirements to run Topaz.

I took a look at the CLX website. Which model, specifically, did you buy?
