My ukulele group played at the local Pickle Festival yesterday at the Ulster County Fair Grounds. Lots of fun. Getting home was something else. It took me almost an hour to get from the parking lot to the road. I was relieved to get on to open road - until traffic became bumper-to-bumper for miles. It took me forty-five minutes to get to the event and two hours to get home.
Here's the problem. The parking lot exits onto the one and only road. There was a poor, unfortunate woman directing traffic. There were cars coming from the left, cars from the right, cars from the parking lot, and hundreds of people crossing both streets. Since only one entity could move at a time, everything else got backed up - way up! All traffic had to stop while huge groups of people exited and entered the event. I've never seen a situation like that before - one parking lot and one event entrance. I bet there were five hundred cars idling at any given time. I've been to the Dutchess Fair Grounds many times, and that's always easy-in and easy-out. That was my first and last trip to Ulster.

I'm glad that you had fun Jerry.
Most importantly I'm glad that you learned a valuable lesson, "That was my first and last trip to Ulster".
I too find that, in my older age, Life Lessons are easy to identify and much easier to learn. (Ouch!)

I think a Ukulele group playing at a pickle festival is a perfect choice.

You had to know that the "Ukes" would be a Huge Draw?!
Nice pics Jerry.
Thanks. Yes, the place emptied out after applause finally died down following our performance.
Obviously, I didn't take those pictures.

So Jerry, who is that good looking guy in the denim shirt with the beautiful woman?

Did you get pickled, or did you behave yourself?

He's my stand-in for photography.

By the time I left, the food lines were so long, that I didn't even bother. It seems that they did have beer there, I think. Considering that most of the people will be driving home, that wasn't a good idea. I saw the "Beer" sign, but I'm sure they were offering it.
Unlike the local Garlic Festival, there wasn't very much about pickles. One truck was selling fried pickles. I declined.

Now you know what it's like to be a cop directing traffic after a football game. And the cars usually stop when directed to, but the sheep (pedestrians) just do what they want (ignore you) and hold up everything.

Right! At least the cop has some training and the appearance of authority. This was a 5' tall woman wearing a yellow jacket, and she had a look of panic in her eyes.
A few years ago I attended a Formula 1 race at Circuit of the Americas outside Austin TX.
we were of the far side of the track serviced by a 2 lane farm road. It took us 3 hours to get out of the parking lot, and 5 hours altogether to get back to Austin. Never again.

I went to a drag race on Long Island years ago, and it took hours to get out of the lot.
