Probably kinda dumb, but what is the effect of a Skylight 1A filter on Digital sensor color balance? Any? Weird colors? I'd try it, but my 1As went with my film cameras. Thanx!

A simple Google search will give you all of the information you need. Those filters were very popular during the film era, they have a magenta tint and tend to warm the image. I remember using them for slide film to control the bluish tint of the sky.
Today we have WB in our cameras and as a bonus we can select the Kelvin temperature we want in our images. Many editors will do that also.

1A has an amber tint.
1B has the magenta tint.

Crudely, 1A is for Ektachrome
and 1B is for Kodachrome.

Auto WB pretty much nulifies both.

Above is the pragmatic reality, but we will most likely hear from the UHH geeks and peepers sooner or later.

It shouldn't have any noticeable effect on the images. It will keep dust and fingerprints off the front lens surface if you leave it on all the time.

Key operator- noticeable...
I used a 1A/skylight on my SLR lenses when I shot Ektachrome, Kodachrome, Kodacolor and never noticed any effect. I have something on my DSLR and am not worried in the slightest on the digital camera either.

For some, simply knowing there is an optical characteristic difference in the filters affects their judgement.

Actually both have a magenta tint.

I have a bunch of 1A, various brands. All are amber and some are denser than others.

Likewise all my "pink" 1B vary somewhat in desity by brand. See attached photo.

Does that mean there will be a larger unnoticeable difference?

True ... I have been known to insist on the supportable facts. You, OTOH, quite clearly insist on upholding UHH Sacred Tradition.

Just researched and both 1A and 1B have magenta color.
UV seem to be the ones with an amber color.

HAHAHA - a new question on filters. Auto WB does negate the coloring aspect of filters.

A UV filter cuts out the ultra-violet part of the spectrum (hence UV). Digital camera sensors as well as film are sensitive to near visible UV light which shows up as purple in photographs. Digital sensors actually have their own UV filter which is usually the argument against using another filter on the lens. A UV filter will also slightly darken skies by filtering out some of the UV from the upper atmosphere, which is generally desirable in landscape photography. Or, people shooting at altitude or near large bodies of water, like us here in the Great Lakes region.

If you fix your white balance, it will warm the image a tiny bit. If you use Auto White Balance, it may still warm the image a tiny bit. Or it may be cancelled out. Or your camera may over-correct and you may end up with a slightly cooler image. Auto WB works in discrete steps. If you don't know how big those steps are, you cannot predict what it will do.

Your cred as a researcher is lacking. Perhaps you should try some real world observation.

Unless one has a device to definitively measure the color,
it's a perception by the viewer.
Not all eyes and minds are created equal.
Visual perception varies.
