I have a Sony RX100 VI and a Sony Alpha 6000 with really no intentions of replacing them. These more than do the job for me!
For the RX100 VI - if I don't use this camera for an extended period of time the lens takes a moment to retract when I power down.
For the Alpha 6000 - the lens clicks a spilt second when I power down.
The experts at Tempe Camera in Tempe, AZ advise me that this is the way the camera(s) work and I really have nothing to worry about. The cameras have been cleaned by the very same Tempe Camera in the last year.
Question is why does this happen and am I looking at a bigger issue?
Thank you to everyone in advance!!

I'll guess that's the way they were built.
I have a Sony H1 that does the same thing with the lens, comes "out" on power up, retracts on power down.
1-2 seconds each trip.
My RX100 VII always hesitates slightly when I turn it off.
The a6000 I have does make a small click as the aperture iris resumes its "at rest" configuration. Of course it uses a wide variety of lenses, they neither extend nor retract.

My Sony's do the same thing. They also take a moment to power up. Nikon and Canon are both instant on.
It is just the camera, there is nothing wrong, you are fine. Go get a coffee and doughnut and relax.
Thank you one and all.
Very much appreciated!!
Really enjoy this web site.

I had a Sony a6000 a few years ago, but I don't remember the lens-closing speed. I have observed that slight hesitation with other cameras, though. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have the Sony RX100 VII and it does that, too. Just how it is.

Perhaps to you, but not to others. No need for snarky comments.

Now the OP and others know that a slight delay in lens retraction isn't a cause for concern.
Have you checked the battery? It takes more power to move the mechanical parts than to capture an image. If the batteries are getting to the weaker side they’ll have enough juice to get the job done, but maybe a bit slower.

Right!
And he has unwatched the thread so we can get back to the topic now.

A TITLE OF “PLEASE ADVISE” Is USELESS.
I had to read the post to discover that it was about Sony, about I know nothing. When I came around this morning, I completely forgot having seen and responded to it yesterday. That is not “snarky”. It should be informative. Now, that I’m awake, I’ll remember it and avoid it for the day, but responding to it TWICE is a waste of energy.
