Dick Butkus has passed away.
One of the all time greats. As a Vikings fan, I hated him and admired him at the same time. Butkus and Sayers in the same round of the draft. The Bears struck gold that year.

One of the best middle linebackers of all time he passed away in his sleep. Growing up he and Ray Nitschke were two of my football heroes.
RIP Dick.
He was well remembered many years after his playing days. One day I was working at the country club (my office was in the basement), and someone excitedly mentioned that Dick Butkus was having dinner in the main dining room upstairs. I didn't see him but was glad to know he was still around and active. We also have as a guest several times a year Sandy Kofax. He is not a member of the club but has friends who are and will come out for golf.
RIP Dick! Loved watching you play.

Remember watching him play college ball, long ago. Great player.
I have not been a huge football fan, (since the Chargers left San Diego), but MR. Butkus, to me
seemed to always be a gentle and humble type of personality. I enjoyed watching in several
films that he was in. Up front his demeanor was never questioned, but the humility came thru.
I am sad for his family and close friends. I am certain that no one will ever speak unkindly of him.
I would say the toughest, best of all time.
Losing a lot of great people. Always comes in waves. :-(
On the football field, he was the meanest, most orniest hombre this side of the mississippi and the other side too.
