An interesting thing happened to me. I traded my D500 with two full frame zoom lenses for a Zfc. Many of my friends see the Zfc (with two zooms) and wondered if I went back to a film camera. I answered with a smile that the new mirrorless "retro" look of Nikon is lighter, smaller, and takes clearer photos. I am extrememely happy with a camera I take with me more often.

I acquired my Z fc a month after it was released, at the beginning of August 2021. I have gotten more enjoyment and consistently great images from it over the last 2 years than from any other camera I've ever owned.

What’s the point of our photography? Everything seems absurd until someone admires our equipment.

Isn't the Zfc the same low resolution 20.9 mp as the D500?

Yes, I no longer shoot the D500 but I would be surprised if the Zfc had better IQ.

I own a Z fc, but I have had no experience with a D500 and as a result I can't make a direct comparison of the IQ between the two cameras. However, I wanted to mention a couple of thoughts I had.

First, just because they are both APS-C sensors with a similar pixel count, doesn't necessarily mean that they are the same sensor or perform identically to each other. There's a 5-year difference in the release date of both cameras.

Secondly, beyond the sensor, the two cameras have very different functionality, not to mention the lens to sensor distance. While a careful A/B comparison between the two may or may not show a significant difference in IQ, I'm not sure one can make that judgment solely based on a few similarities between the two sensors.

Bough Z50 then Zfc just for its looks.
Find out I like better Zfc for its dials, no longer have to wade through multiple menus, bad enough to have to do it in car.
Advantage of Z50 one more programmable button and tiny build in flash, nice for fill in, only works with mechanical shutter.
Wish cars came with fc option, dials and knobs rather than touchscreens, mouse pads, selection wheels and multiple nested menus.
Guess effect of living into ninth decade

Really? Which controls that you can do with the dial on the Zfc and have to go into menu with the Z50?

You meant the exposure compensation? On the Z50 you press the +/- button and turn the rear dial. You don't have to go into menu for that.
