Robocalls seem less likely to leave a message.

But they do if the spiel is longer than the greeting.....

With this being the end of September and the first part of October I get ton of calls about Medic Care so like everybody else if I don't see their name on caller idea then I don't answer house or cell phone.

I've actually had a spammer or two leave voice messages.
Rare, but it happens.
I wound up adding "scan scheduling" to my contact list for that reason.

It happened to me too. Usually, the voicemail starts with the question "Would you like to listen in English or Chinese?" and I answer by clicking on #7 - "Erase the message"

My cell when receiving spam calls that I don't answer always ends up making a voice message of thin air.
My landline works well with a call checker from the telco I use. It asks the caller to hit a random specific number before the phone starts ringing. all robocalls are a thing of the past on it now.

THAT's nice!

But you won't get pre-recorded messages from the power/water/ other maybe important announcement/information either.

I used to add on my answering message: "If you are trying to sell me something, please leave a message and tell me what time you eat dinner and I'll call you back then."

Our phones keep us up to date on appointment reminders and with our kids. They are for our use, not some robo-caller. Why should I waste my time talking to someone I don't know about something I don't want? ...And salesmanship has just devolved to making noise - look at ME! Features and benefits are a thing of the past. If we don't know you by your phone number we don't answer, and "NO," I won't call you back, so don't bother trying to call us.

I've been tempted to change the message on our answering machine to:

If you know our cell phone numbers, please call us on them. Otherwise, leave a message, we'll return calls we feel are legitimate.

Excellent!

When I see a caller ID I don't recognize, I pick up and hang up. That can be risky, though.

When the phone rang just now, I almost hung up, but I thought I'd answer. Good choice. I'm getting a chimney liner kit delivered from Texas, with free shipping. This call was to arrange delivery. The kit costs $430 vs almost $2,000 locally for the same material. I'm glad I answered the phone.

Most often when the home phone rings it is either a reminder about an appointment or it is a spam call. What we do when we pick up if there is nothing there when we say hello and the silence continues for a few seconds followed by a beep we hang up because it is always a spam call but if the silence is then followed by a voice without that beep we listen to see if it isa reminder call, if not and they ask for Mr or Mrs “our name” in their foreign accent we just hang up or interrupt them and say don’t bother calling this number again and then hang up.

Jerry introduced the group to CPR Callblocker. I've added a number of numbers to it and blocked a whole lot more. The problem today is, the caller can put in a "pretend" number. That drives me crazy. Sometimes I talk to the caller and tie them up without any interest in their "service". Other times, I have my noise cancelling headphones on and use my air horns on them. Just sayin. . .

Get back to us when the liner actually arrives and is as promised.

I bought a Vtech home system within the last year. It has some really great spam blockers that you can configure as well as a BLOCK and an ALLOW list. In one case, it announces to the caller that they have to press a # in order for the call to go through. This allows any rare friendly caller to get through and it seems to discourage spam callers. I would guess I have only had about 2 spam calls in the last year. Another option (that I don't use) requires the caller to announce their name and a #. And then that name is voiced to the home and the call can be accepted or rejected.

I no longer use my CPR call blocker which wasn't near as good as the Vtech system.
