Oct 3, 2023 12:16:19   #
rgrenaderphoto Loc: Hollywood, CA

Eye of God or Helix nebula, 695 L.Y. in the constellation Aquarius. The Helix is an image of a dying star, shedding its outer layers as it evolves into a supernova. In several billion years, this will be the fate of our Sun.

Integrated 70 ea 120-sec sub-images and Processed in Pixinsight. Finished in Lightroom CC

Beautiful! By now, @ 695 light years, it's probably a DEAD star!

“…In several billion years, this will be the fate of our Sun…”

…our future relatives will want to know, if we knew about this, why we weren’t planning to save the world back in 2023…?

That's funny!! Assuming there is such a thing as humans five billion years from now, they will know, as we know now, that there isn't a lot we could do, as in NOTHING, about the life span of a star. The only way to "save the world" in this respect is to make sure that humans have figured out how to leave this solar system and populate this galaxy!
