Just a fun shot. Not the greatest quality, but an example what shows up at fast shutter speeds. Captured in the midst of a head throw, hence the water trail.

Sony A1, 600mm f/4 + 1.4x (840MM), 1/4000, F5.6(wide open), ISO 800. I was in the water with the bird, camera on a tripod with gimbal head, perhaps 6" off the water level, using the back screen on the camera to frame the bird. Getting low has its advantages. Taken in Barrow Alaska this past summer.

Hope you enjoy!

Excellent. I like that you got down to the level of the bird.

Waders, dress warmly. Just seems a bit soft but my old eyes could be the culprit. Thanks for the look.

Actually it's a breeding plumage Pacific Loon, but who cares. That is one beautiful shot. If it were mine I would find a place on my wall for it.

Thanks for the correction. I'm not much of a birder and don't know my species very well. A loon, is a loon, is a loon. But if I can get a decent photo of it, I'm happy, whoever it is. And appreciate your comment on the photo. I have been looking at it over and over again, and finally decided to give it a try. I think it's a bit unique with the evidence of the bird throwing its head. Have a good one!
