In case you're wondering about un-powered FOB memory longevity.

For kicks & giggles I looked at (mounted) an old Lexar 16GB USB fob I had in the car with music on it.
Since I/we listen to XM radio in that car, I never plugged it into the car. It was never powered since the files were transferred to it on 5/29/2017, about 6.5 years ago.
At least the memory is re-charged now.

I looked up "fob" and couldn't find any definition that matched a device that could hold music....(yes, I know what you meant)

Yea, I go between thumb drive and fob.
Kinda since many go on/come with split ring key holders.
I have a few with split rings.

Yea, that too, but rarely, because a flash drive can be in a package format other than a thumb drive.
eg. SD, CF, ...
Maybe USB flash drive.

Yeah, "USB flash drive" is more precise than just "flash drive". But either one is way better than "fob"!

(So, was all the music gone?)

Yes, the files (that I checked) appeared to be intact and there were no "device errors".
(Sorry, I meant to add that, but passed the edit time frame....)

That's pretty damn good! Especially left in a car that long. Thanks for posting, good to know.

Yes, I was a bit apprehensive. I knew it was a while, but not 6 years....
I still would not leave one in a drawer "forever" without plugging it in occasionally to re-charge the circuitry.
But I think it may be prudent not to wait this long!
Maybe every year or two?
