WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators 6/23 approved the nation’s first over-the-counter birth control pill in a landmark decision soon allowing American women and girls to obtain contraceptive medication as easily as they buy aspirin and eyedrops.

The Food and Drug Administration cleared once-a-day "Opill" to be sold without a prescription, making it the first such medication to be moved out from behind the pharmacy counter. "

Can men handle women with sexual "no price for sin" freedom?
This will go into effect in early 2024... unless... ??
How will the ultra-pseudo-moralistic Republicans deal with this?

Why does almost everything you post come across like a twelve year old’s first wet dream?

skylane5sp, Perhaps you could explain what you mean, there may be women in UHH who do not relate to your reference. How did your first 12-year-old wet dream affect you then and now and how does this relate to the subject? Do you still feel guilty? Are you saying that Birth-control should be a guilt redden subject? Frankly, I would say that most of us have forgotten about a wet dream at 12, I did.

Perhaps, the subject appears to have upset you, your nocturnal emission is still not dealt with as an adult. Your insurance may pay for therapy for mental health issues.

Perhaps you do not have a good answer to the questions and so you used a foolish attack to divert.

Skylane, as you know the Republicans have restricted women's health clinics.

Again Skylane, the clear question... How will the women's rights restricting Republicans deal with the fact that birth-control can be sold to a young girl without a prescription openly displayed on the Walmart Women's Personal Care isle?
What word[s] did you not understand?

The Opill contains a single hormone, norgestrel, which is a form of progestin.

Norgestrel must not be taken by any woman who has, or has had, breast cancer.

For everyone else, per the Mayo Clinic website, the potential side-effects of taking norgestrel include:

increased risk of ectopic pregnancy
risk of developing ovarian cyst
change in vision
dizziness
heavy bleeding
severe headache
stomach pain, cramps, or bloating
white or brownish vaginal discharge
absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
bloating
dark urine
loss of appetite
menstrual changes
nausea or vomiting
stomach or pelvic discomfort, aching, or heaviness
stopping of menstrual bleeding
yellow eyes or skin
unusual tiredness or weakness
backache
blemishes on the skin
breast discomfort
increased appetite
nervousness
acne

Many of the above could be quite serious.

Furthermore, in discussing prescription norgestrel, Mayo Clinic also states:

"It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure this medicine is working properly. Blood and urine tests may also be needed to check for unwanted effects.

Although you are using this medicine to prevent pregnancy, you should know that using this medicine while you are pregnant could harm your unborn baby."

So OTC Oprill will be an interesting experiment, the unsupervised use of norgestrel.

I know you were hoping for a derogatory commentary regarding your dreaded Republicans, but politics aside, this is a huge move for the FDA.

Because almost everything you post has a creepy, sexual connotation to it. But hey, don't take my word for it... ask around.

Please cite the instances rather than making a vague accusation. I checked the last 12 of my topics and no sexuality was involved. Are you making false accusations?

Are solar camera filters sexual? Really? Oh! you "screw" them on.

Yes David, "So OTC Oprill will be an interesting experiment, the unsupervised use of norgestrel."
FDA says: there "Are there side effects of norgestrel? There are also side effects from pregnancy.

Like any medication, norgestrel can have side effects. Common side effects may include irregular vaginal bleeding, nausea, breast tenderness, and headaches.
These side effects are generally mild and often resolve on their own. However, if you experience severe or persistent side effects, it is important to seek medical advice."
https://www.fda.gov/drugs/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers/opill-0075mg-oral-norgestrel-tablet-information

"OTC birth control is available in over 100 countries, so we've been behind in availing safe, effective methods such as this oral contraceptive pill to individuals who are trying to avoid pregnancy." Opill, also known as the "mini-pill," contains one hormone, progestin, and is taken daily.Jul 13, 2023"
https://onlinedoctor.superdrug.com/birth-control-around-the-world/

OTC drugs are assumed safe, excess Aspirin nearly k**led me, a duodenal ulcer opened up and I lost 2/3 of my blood, my Dr. was on the way to work so I stopped in feeling woozy ... "when they are as far gone as you we rarely bring them back." that was a shocking comment two weeks later Dr. visit. Ibuprofen is also not without risks...

Dave, one of my favorite sayings is "What does reality have to do with it." [Republican restrictions]... the side effects you mention are according to FDA are rare. Political probe, certainly. The Republicans have placed significant restrictions on women's health... example the morning-after pill. Such restrictions are to get the far-right religious v**e. This OTC birth control and the morning-after pill are in the same ballpark regarding the sexual freedom of women.

The flaw in your argument stems from your belief in sin. The world will be better off when the boomers die.

Indeed especially for the young ladies. While teaching full-time after retirement, one of my special ed students was a single mom and it was a struggle for her to remain in school to finish her high school.

The question I posed was how will Republicans react in states where the morning-after pill has been banned and women's health clinics have been shut down. Prescriptions are one thing, but OTC items like aspirin are another. The new birth control pill is on the shelf alongside other nonprescription items and at a reasonable $25-50 a month.

Simplified Question: How will Republican-controlled states that have restricted women's access to health care react to curb this over-the-counter birth control pill? Can they restrict this?

The question has nothing to do with effectiveness or side effects it is a political question.

A common trait and quite predictable. They obviously don't read what they write.

Needed a break! Been fairly active since Sept 20 and the darned trails we know have become steeper!

About an hour ago we heard a big shriek from one of the rutting Elk and looked out the back door and...

Leaving Oct 10.
