Most people prefer to take photos of the front side of the building. This is an alternative view, the backside. This is where the water comes from to turn the large water wheel which powers a stone grinding wheel in the milling process.
The Wayside Inn Grist Mill was originally built in the 1760s by Henry Ford’s ancestors. The mill served as an essential component of the economy of Sudbury, grinding grain for local farmers until the early 20th century. By the 1920s, the mill had fallen into disrepair, and it was Henry Ford himself who stepped in to restore it. His goal was to create a living museum that would allow visitors to experience the way of life in early America. The Grist Mill was a prime supplier to King Arthur Flour and Pepperidge Farm, and served as the inspiration for the Pepperidge Farm logo.
The mill is located on the grounds of the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Nice shot. There's not a whole lot of these things left.
