Kitchen Butcher Knife Do Over

This isn't food but it is found in the kitchen. Thought it might help someone out. This knife is made of carbon steel and as you know carbon steel stains and rust and just looks nasty over a lot of years use. This knife belonged to a friend of mine grandma and she threw it out so I took it and re did it and made it look nice again. I washed it good and cleaned the blade with alcohol to get all the oil off it. I then soaked the blade in white vinegar for about 4 hours. Then I washed it off with water and wiped it down good. I then put 7 to 8 dabs of yellow mustard on one side of the blade and took a q tip and swirled it around and turned it over and repeated the mustard process on the other side of blade. Just make sure you keep the blade up off of what ever you have it laying on. Prop the knife up with blade not touching anything for about 8 hours. Then wash the mustard off and dry it off good. last step rub a small amount of olive oil over the blade and handle. Now you have a knife with a new patina and all the stains gone. This also prevents the knife from rusting so quick. It's amazing what a little vinegar and mustard will do. You can watch how its done on you tube. just look up forced mustard patina on carbon steel knifes.
