What is a normal variance for ISO when set to "Auto" and scene is essentially the same from exposure to exposure?

All/each of my Canon & SONY cameras have done/do this. I have worked around this where lighting aspects allowed by watching the in-camera metering results, choosing a median value, and then setting that rather than continueing with AuotISO. Works for me. If Canon says it is normal I would assume spending a gob of $$$ would result in more frustration and no improvement.

There WAS MOVEMENT. It is noticed in the reflection above the subject dancer's left shoulder, it moved enough to indicate that a spot reading on her could easily have shifted from the dark flower to the whiter gown.

Looking @ your 2 shots again, even WITH muli point metering, the lamp in background will still be a "gotcha" if one of your meter points catches it.
