At the races.
It poured on Saturday and most of Sunday; but I still managed to get a few images without having to put my camera at risk. It is supposed to be "weather sealed" ; but what that means exactly is probably up to interpretation.

Wow, these are great! The bright colors and that gravity-defying lean...marvelous.

Thank you Linda. It is kind of magical what these guys can do on a motorcycle.

Very nicely done!! I love the first one; your position was perfect for showing how far down these racers go to take the corners.
I used to impress myself enough when taking the corners at Deal's Gap and scraping my feet off the pegs on my Goldwings; I can't see myself reaching the same angles as the racers.

I've ridden Deal's Gap. The biggest difference between that and a race course is that it is a public road. On a race track I've gotten a knee down a few times and it was a real thrill. Thanks for commenting and including your experience at the Dragon. Everyone should ride that road once.

Breaking the mold again I see. Wonderful set. You captured some insane people at the height of their craziness. In the Army in 1962 I had the opportunity to buy a Triumph 650. One of the guys in the company had an AMA Expert and was riding a dealer sponsored TR at the flat track outside of El Paso. I asked him if he would teach me to ride and he turned me down flat. He said nobody in their right mind rides on the street. I took him at his word and bought an MGA instead

I agree with him. I've ridden on track (not racing, just a track day for enthusiasts) and I've ridden on the street. If something goes wrong at the track you don't have curbs, buildings, light posts or cars to worry about. Add to that plenty of run off areas and the fact that everyone is going in the same direction, and the risks are mitigated quite a bit. Additionally, you cannot get on a track without a full complement of protective gear including leathers, chest protectors, back protectors, gloves and boots. I don't ride anymore but I'm still a race fan.

#1 is a super shot Erich - but he’s not got his knee down yet, unlike rider #1 in pic 2. That guy’s definitely trying! Both real ‘racing shots’!
Good to see you were able to get some shooting in on the really horrible weekend. I think you captured the essence of the day. I road a motorcycle while in college. The only mode of transportation available to me. Really enjoyed does days. The only drawback was having to ride in snow to get to class. The other was finding the right girl to date. 😀
One of your best photos. Well done.
These are great shots. My question is how do they get righted again? Are they on a banked curve that then pops them back up? Or do they have to do it all with their own sense of balance?
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the photos.

In the first shot, the rider has already started to accelerate out of the turn after hitting the apex. I'm posting a photo of the same guy just one burst frame prior to the original that I posted. If he does not have his knee down, then he is certainly mowing the grass with it. lol
On the second shot #1 is the current national champion. He's always got his knee down.

Thanks for commenting. I guessing you did alright with the girl! Snow and bikes don't mix.
