The Yellow Jacket and Fly Eating My Apples

I have one apple tree in my back yard and every day now I will find up to 100-200 newly fallen apples on the ground under the tree. Of course that means yellow jackets are eating what I do not pick up. This afternoon I found a stand off between a yellow jacket and a house fly, both vying for the same apple even though there were a couple of hundred more to choose from. Go figure, huh?

Really great shots Dennis. Yellowjackets and I have a hate/hate relationship. I kill them, they sting me.

Thanks for the kind words Jack.

It has been years since I have been stung, by bees, hornets, wasps etc. anyway. 🙄🤦‍♂️🤥

Very good!
We have two apple trees (although I generally dislike apples). But Yellowjackets provide entertainment. If they get a bit crowded, some of them provide some drama as they 'fight' over the apple they are on. Fighting means going after each other with open jaws and curled abdomens. Sometimes they tumble around each other while posed in a stinging position. Although it looks dramatic, no stinging occurs that I've seen.

Thank you very much Mark. I have seen that occasionally but no stinging either.

Thank you Sylvia for the positive comment and the thumbs up with a smiley to boot. My head needs to shrink so I can get into my truck.
