Now the crack is colorized.

I think to a lot people, "restoration" means putting a colorize filter on it. It's not only here that I see that...

You may be right. I have a friend who is a professional photographer. I doubt he would colorize the picture, simply do his best to get rid of the scratches or other things that decrease its visual appeal when restoring. I am not saying colorizing is/was wrong but simply the photo in question was colorized but the scratch was still evident. I believe I put a smiley face at the end of my post so as to imply nothing was wrong.

It's not about what's right or wrong, I guess, but when I restore a photo I try to make it look like it would have looked when "new." That usually means it was made on film and printed on paper, and was not razor sharp and digital smooth. I also try to give it the look of film grain. That usually mean it does not contain plastic-looking AI faces, or colors that are all over the spectrum, since that would not be a restoration, but more like a resto-mod.

Like putting 22 inch wheels on a "57 Chevy.

But to each his own...

I sense we are in some disagreement but not on my part. I completely agree with what you are saying about simply restoring the photo and not making it into a modern ultra sharp portrait. I attempted to HUMOROUSLY comment on the colorized photo as being a colorized photo with a crack. Nothing was done to correct the crack which the OP had wanted done, just fix the crack. As I have pointed out, this is my third time, I was being humorous at the time. Are you not seeing that, are offended somehow where I don't see why?

Of course I would not put 22 inch wheels on a 57 Chevy. That is not restoration but embellishing something that needs no improvement or embellishment at all.

Forgive me if I am reading your posts wrong or if I am completely mistaken in my thinking you and I are in some disagreement. If so then with my apology for unintentionally pissing you off I will have to demand my freedom to pick as I like.

We are not in disagreement. You did not piss me off. I am not arguing with you or anyone. I fully understood your humorous comment (the first time.) I thought colorizing a photo without fixing the damage was not a good use of someone's time, and I took the opportunity of your post about colorizing the crack to express an opinion about photo restoration. That's all. That was a mistake, but it was mine, not yours. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Thank you so much. It is hard sometimes to gauge a person’s feelings when posting on the Internet. I had no problem at all but wondered if you might. Glad all is well.
