Lady Bankes and Her Sacked Castle

Lady Bankes surveys the ruins of her castle from Gods Acre, a small cemetery in the village of Corfe Castle. She had bravely defended it from the soldiers of Cromwell's army but eventually had to concede as a traitor allowed the enemy access. They then planted explosive charges wherever they thought best but failed to raze it to the ground completely..

As usual, a composite of my photos, this time treated to a Glowing Edges filter, inverted, subdued and reduced as felt necessary. I hope it represents something like an ink and watercolour painting. Your critique welcomed as always.

I'm not sure about this one Dave, it is so different from what you usually post. I'll have to think about it.

I think that’s quite understandable Jack, take your time! But I would be interested in an opinion if you form one.

It certainly is quite different from your usual creations. I think the paint effect works for me, for the bottom 2/3 of the image. Less sure about the top. Your story line is great.

I thought the sky might bother some folk Ellen. I’m still unsure but think I can probably live with it. The story is factual, this is Corfe Castle, just a few minutes drive from our village. It is now owned by the National Trust, along with much of the Isle of Purbeck - gifted to them to avoid what would have been crippling death duties.

I think your processing choice suits the sad story very well, Dave.

You know how sometimes when you scroll up or down a page on your computer screen, a crop appears you might not have considered? For me, cropping out the blue sky makes the the castle and surrounding area feel more expansive, and I find more impact that way. The lady's head scarf (don't know correct term) might be toned down a little; it seems to draw my attention.

Thank you for continuing to push the boundaries of creativity!

I do know what you mean regarding ‘quick’ alternative crops Linda, in fact I considered doing just what you suggest, but liked the slash of blue relieving the general yellow/brown. Get what you’re saying though, and it does add a bit more impact perhaps. The headdress thing was a devil to tame as it is so bright in the shot but now I’ve got it to this another curves layer would solve the problem you have with it. Thanks for your suggestions, they’re helpful.
I’ve been messing with this sort of thing for a while now in an attempt to make something painterly but mine. I think this one’s a good step forward but more work to do and I know it won’t suit all types of subject - or folk, come to that.

I would rather see images created with your usual style of processing. I'm just not a fan of this one.

I normally like abstracts but somehow this just does not work for me
