This guy started to build a web in my yard.
I have never had a spider this big, and I have no idea what he is.
Could anyone identify him?

Looks like a Joro. Native to Asia and Japan. It probably got to this country in a shipping container.

That is amazing. I never saw anything like that before. I guess that it did get here in a shipping container. I am not neaar any processing areas, but it could have been in the wind.

Good find, Topcat. It appears to me to be a member of orb weavers. Perhaps a round-shouldered orb weaver variety.

I was told that it could also be an Argiope spider, which is more common here...
