I wonder how many people are influenced by posts on social media which don't agree with their own personal views, I imagine very few. Has social media completely replaced the face to face discussion where you heard the other person's point and he heard yours, but you did hear it. Has it made it too easy to ignore the other person's perspective and only look at your own perception of things. Has social media made division in society worse? Has it elevated free speech too a point where there's no consideration for other peoples feelings and no consequences to whatever vitriol anyone wishes to spout. Should free speech mean no responsibility whatsoever. I'm sure when the foundling father's wrote the first amendment they could never conceive some of the hate in modern social media. But Pandora is out of the box and there's no putting her back. Anybody agree and have a solution, Anybody?

I wonder how many people are influenced by posts o... (
show quote)
Any method of communication other than face-to-face voice leaves something to be desired. And remember that most people are on social media sites to present "ME" rather than interacting pragmatically with others.
Social media bad. Lot's of misinformation.
I like the ONE social media I use.
I have a ton of family and friends, and some organizations.
Too many to keep in touch by phone and most are out of my area (other states & countries).
It's real easy to send a note and they can answer at their leisure.
I use it as a device to easily keep up/in touch with them (if they post).
I take thing posted (spouting) with a grain of salt and do my own research.
Yes, people can say what they want while hiding behind a computer screen.
Some give me better insight as to their personality in doing so.
If someone says something in person there is no taking it back either.
Just less people will hear it.
Social media hasn't created the divide, people's personalities have.
Social media simply made/makes it more visible.
Isn't UHH a social media?

Okay, two.....
But not as general and widely used by millions of all persuasions like the "social media" sites.
Narrow (small) clientele at UHH.

No, it is not. It is a photo-sharing site. There is a difference; especially where intent is concerned.

Okay,
specialized social media.
Social media: "websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to
share information and to develop social and professional contacts..."
(My bolding, information as in images, proceedures, etc..)
Now tell me that does not describe UHH........

Of course this conversation is being held in the General Chit-Chat (non-photography talk) section
LOL, social media is anti-social.
Social media also has a very effective marketing system for selling fake things. My husband believes he will receive what is advertised. I told him not to purchase anything. (I just got the new credit replacement card delivered Thursday) They do not know if a vendor is legit and there are very few ways to confirm they are legit.
Late the week before last, my husband ordered something "handy" from a vendor on Facebook. Within 5 minutes, I received a notice of a $200 charge to my new credit card. Discover asked if it was legit. It wasn't. Kill the account again, challenge the first charge and get a new account number and cards.
Much of social media is just a crooks set up to commit fraud on the public. I seldom purchase from a vendor I don't know, but I check out who the vendor is before I give any credit card info. My husband must think I'm made of money because I pay the bills. Who knows?
UHH and Modern Vespa are my social media. FB is a semi random flow of unknown people (and some you know too). There is little discussion takes place, you state, someone else states, etc. Forums are able to discuss ideas and opinions
