As the old man walked the beach at dawn, he noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. Finally catching up with the youth, he asked him why he was doing this. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun.
"But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of starfish," countered the other. "How can your effort make any difference?"
The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety in the waves. "It made a difference to that one," he said.

Great message, Bill. Sometimes the difference we make does not have to be huge to be meaningful. Thanks!

what a lesson! we all need to hear it. thanks!
Apparently this little story I posted has been around for a while but, I had never seen it before. As a teacher in this day and age with student apathy at an all-time high and misguided educrats compounding the problem by pushing a feel good agenda, I have to struggle every day to practice the lesson exemplified in the story. I have to remember that I cant save them all but, if I can make a difference for one today, that is one more than the day before.
Thanks for post.Great thought. As one of our rubbish bin firms logos says "Recycling the world one bin at a time"
