mollymolly Loc: In the heart of the Everglades.

I came upon a large clutch of baby Gators today and saw the most amusing thing. There was a yearling Gator, probably the only survivor from the last clutch, who was acting as 'Baby Sitter'. The little ones were all trying to get on top of big brother at the same time! The only thing is, he didn't have as much room as Mom does. The clutch had about 30 babies. Mom stayed close by but they wanted to be with 'Bro'. So many of them would climb on top that he would fall off of the log. He would get back up only to be covered again. The babies were struggling to all get on top of him and pushing each other out of the way. I really enjoyed watching them!

Mom was keeping a close eye on me!

Thanks Shane. This was the first BIG clutch that I have seen this year. I wasn't even looking for them either. I saw some Spoonbills on the other side of the bushes and was trying to find a way to get closer and there they were!
