Got away for couple days and weather was quite lovely. These shots taken mid day - not the best time - but great to get out with friends anyway
Especially the second.
(I'm often in various places midday.... oh well.
)
Very nice compositions.

We work with what we have since most of us don't have the luxury of being able to stay in one place for days to find that perfect light.
"Harsh light" does not have to be your enemy.
I am the veteran of many such campaigns. Especially on the trips to Europe, our itinerary is carved in stone well before we leave and generally doesn't leave much wiggle room when it comes to time.
Add to that the fact that my wife will not wait around for me to 'work the shot' so I have had to become reasonably proficient at spinning dials very quickly, sometimes even while walking.
I have had, by necessity, to become intimately familiar with the idea of, you get what you get, and you don't throw a fit.
The real stunners can be taken by those that have the luxury of time.

Unadulterated photographic magnificence 🏆🏆🥇🏆🏆
Nice pics! I really like the pic you took looking East. I'll be up there soon when the aspens are changing. I was up there last year for the changing and the colors were fantastic, the mountains looked like they were on fire. I have the exact same shot of the little lake at the top of Cottonwood Pass, just a few weeks later in the year.
Nothing wrong with shooting at high noon. If you can get the right clouds!!
Man, those shots take me back a few years. Thanks.
My wife and I didn’t discover the beauty and enchantment of Colorado until ‘92. From that initial exposure we began taking driving vacations in late October. One year we made a loop that included a night in Buena Vista followed by the drive through the Collegiate Peaks and up over Cottonwood Pass (with snow scattered everywhere) and down to Gunnison. We were in our Olds Silhouette and almost immediately as we started down the west side the road went from dry with snow on each side ice covered. I was amazed at how well the mini van did on the ice.
And I remember seeing Taylor Park reservoir down and to the west, much like your number 2 shot above, but further away.
Thanks for the memories.
