Now we will se the Medina as it usually was, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Doesn't this look like a movie set straight out of Indiana Jones?


It's too bad these photos don't give you a sense of the sounds and the smells ... an oral and audio cacophony of life.


The summer heat was unbearable for us, but the locals were far more used to it. We were both teachers, so the only time we could travel back then was during the summer. The advantage, of course, was that this was off season for Morocco.

We stayed in the shade as much as possible. The locals didn't seem to mind the sun at all.


By pure accident, we found a functioning synagogue. I imagine that there were about seven Jews in all of Marrakesh, so I'm sure it didn't functon very much. The keeper was a very nasty blind guy who basically told us to get lost..

This part of the Medina was protected from the sun by overhead tarps. It was still hot as Hell.

Another shop. We actually bought an iconic octagnal table in the Medina ... not in this shop ... and in those days we could carry it home on the plane. The table was carved and painted by foot, not by hand. Not enough space here to explain.
