On this date in 1959 the TV series Bonanza premiered on NBC.
And became a household name.
My father had just purchased our first color TV and Bonanza was one of the first series shot in color. We had friends who would come over and squeeze into a small den with my family just to watch it in color. Unlike the few other color shows where the people often had green tinted skin and trees were blue, Bonanza had good color.
I was a kid at the time and couldn’t get into Bonanza…they weren’t what I thought of as “real” cowboys😂 Maybe if we’d had color…..😳
Was the first show where the mother heard a baby crying outside? She went out to check on the baby and was shot dead with an arrow. Or was that another show.

And it supposedly caused a lot of people to buy a color TV.
What I liked about it was its "historical accuracy". In one episode, Ben and the boys would be involved in the lead up to the Civil War and in the next one there would be an early automobile.

If that show was still on, it would be on the History Channel.
