Splooting squirrel

If you ever spot a squirrel spread out on it's belly during a hot summer day, don't panic. It's perfectly normal behavior, according to wildlife experts. The phenomenon in which the rodents lay flat on a cold surface is called "splooting," and you're likely to witness it more and more as an intense heat wave continues to bare down on Texas.

I have several that do this regularly on a birdbath. I saw this little guy outside a convenience store.

We have a few that do it in our trees on hot days. Looks like they are in trouble but I guess not.

The squirrels do that here in California too. We get some heat out here too. Nice shot.

Neat photo. I had a Pembroke Welsch Corgi that splooted several times a day.
