Hello Hoggers,

How often do you send out your camera for routine maintenance? I've had my D750 for 6 years now and haven't sent it out yet, but I have had the sensor cleaned annually. Nothing is wrong with it but I'm just wondering.

Thanks,

Dennis

Another form of GAS. Save your money for something important.

I have the same question about my 99 ISUZU with 208,000 miles on it.

"I have had the sensor cleaned annually. " Why not clean it yourself? Good kits are available.

For a car the maintenance is required often besides the regular oil change and fluid changes. For a camera I don't send it in unless it's broken.

In 50 years I've never sent one out for anything.
I think about 25 years for my film cameras before I retired them.
I keep them clean (they store in a camera case) and they've always worked fine.

Cleaning when needed. Only once have I had a camera repair and that was a 1980-sh vintage 6x7cm Medium Format film camera. The film advance mechanism broke. Than the cloth-rubber shutter tore loose. End of camera body. I sold the lenses for a profit and gave the body away to one of the lens purchasers for parts.

Auto mechanic years ago told me "If it aint broke don't mess with it." When I have ignored his advice I have regretted it.

I have owned a great number of cameras since the early 60's, Nikon, Leica, Hasselblad, Canon, Topcon, Pentax, well you get the idea. I have NEVER sent even one of them out for routine maintenance. Of course I have never had any problem with any of those cameras. Why waste the money?

The only camera I have ever sent-in is my Rolleiflex 2.8D twin lens reflex, which was purchased by my father in the mid 1950's. It needed shutter cleaning, lubrication and focus calibration.

KEH did the work for $375.00 USD and it now works perfectly.

Although I've found the recent manufacturers' recommended oil service to be over optimistic. Cheaper than a new block.
