My mom had two (count 'em) two Valients. Slant 6, stalled in the heat, stick on the floor. Mom thought she was a racer girl.

I had a Pontiac Tempest and loved it. No problems. It was gold colored and ran well

I'm surprised the Tempest made this list. I lived in Pontiac and there were lots of them on the roads in Michigan. While the Edsel died an ignominious death, the Tempest morphed into the GTO, the finest street car of the 60's.

I saw a movie on Netflix a while back - kind of a comedy. The main character worked at a place that had workers making up lists to post online - Ugliest Cars, Richest People, etc., anything to get something posted online so they could run ads. Most of what is posted on lists is a matter of opinion. I find these lists interesting, but I resist the click bait.

When someone asks for camera advice, I posts lists of "The Best..." Although there is some overlap is the lists, they are usually all different, so the buyer still has to make a choice.

My first car was a hand-me-down 1960 Valiant V-100 with rubber floor mats, no radio, no A/C, no right-side rear view mirror, a three-on-the-floor, and aftermarket seatbelts. It was truly a total piece of crap. It had given my Dad nothing but trouble since he bought it new as a commuter box. Why he bought my Mom a new '65 Plymouth Belvedere, instead of some other brand, I'll never know, but the Belvedere lasted 225,000 miles before he traded it. When he gave me the Valiant, he bought a '71 Ford LTD, as my Mom's daily driver. When I went off to college, Dad sold the Valiant to his mechanic.

The parental units had one non-American car, a 1985 Toyota Camry. They got rid of it only because the seats were hard for my Mom to get in and out of. Dad protested, because it was the most reliable car they ever owned. They drove it for seven years and over 155,000 miles of post-retirement travel. Dad bought a used Crown Victoria after that, then a used 2002 Olds Aurora, in 2007. I inherited the Olds in 2013, and gave it to my twins. It was a piece of crap that cost me more to maintain, in five years, than our two 2009 Toyota Priuses had cost in maintenance and repairs in ten years! Both Priuses had half again as many miles on them as the Olds. When my kid wrecked the Olds on the way to school in 2018, he did me a favor. He's now driving one of those 2009 Priuses, with over 205,000 miles on it. It's still reliable.

I hesitate to admit it but my first car was a '57 Renault Dauphine and I was so proud of it.
In retrospect, there is nothing wonderful that can be said about it.
Once I learned its weaknesses I could drive from Tampa to Miami with only 3 head gaskets. A real POS!

I lusted for the sportier model, the Caravelle.
For extra cash you could get the souped convertible edition. A full 40hp and a 4 speed gearbox.

A friend had one and let my drive it one weekend while he was away.
All the girls loved it. At 16, I thought I would be in heaven.
Oh, the memories!!
