A Number of Damselflies

Somewhat out of sequence for my day as I went fishing, was a number of damselflies. Before dropping a line in the Snake River I decided to take some photographs of whatever I could find. I was struck by the number of damselflies and other insects that were around me. At one time I counted six damselflies in a cluster of an about a foot. They were all around me. No time like the present I thought to get some photos.

You will notice some were doing IT.

Excellent, Dennis. The reproductive urge will cause a gathering for any species!

Thank you kpmac. I noticed a few engaged in the same activity over top of the water but when I got close enough to photograph they had left the area. Maybe that few were shy.

Good stuff! One will note that male damselflies (and the related dragonflies) are pretty much randy all the time, soliciting any female and commonly checking of females of other species. The females, for their part, will usually signal "buzz off!" to the male. It's amusing to watch.

Thank you Mark for good information. I can't help but wonder if I am part dragonfly. I do seem to get the, "buzz off", message often. NOT amusing.
