When the All Sections link is used, under each section title is a short description.
Except for the Main Photography section. I can see newcomers assuming that's the place to post photos. Even some users who have been here a while haven't noticed the "All Sections" button

This is true. The page needs to be redesigned and the Help link and All Sections link both be given prominence at the top of the page.

Amazing at how many photos are being posted here in main photography discussion.
Does it matter anymore where they are posted?
I made a mistake one time and Admin viciously attacked me and threatened to lock me out if I did it again. or something like that.
Just wondering if that rule has been suspended.
What rule? It's not in the section Photography Forum -- Rules, Help, FAQ.
Your allegation that "Admin viciously attacked me" says more about you than it does about any "rule".

Main forum, no picture and no link. If either is present, change the default forum selection to either gallery or link forum, depending on the case.
The same can be done for the chit-chat section.
It's not "simple". The problem is that the forum selection is made before the poster has even entered a title for their thread, let alone any text.
The only way to make it work is to prevent the selection from being made until the OP clicks the Send button. But imagine the confusion that would create.
The "rule" that everyone assumes is being applied does not exist. It's an afterthought, a convention that is being followed based on an interpretation of the original poster's intent. That's why it can't be easily automated. Someone has to read the first post and think about it.

Many people don't look at the category PICK LIST showing where they will be posting.
Maybe they don't realize it's a drop-down list.
Or can't read instructions:
"To start a new discussion topic on our forum, select the section for your topic and click "Continue":"
They just click Create, hit Continue, upload/write, and Send.
I believe the default is the current/most recent category one is viewing. When one logs in and hasn't viewed anything yet, the initial default is Main Photography Discussion
It doesn't bother me in the slightest as to what category something is posted as I look at the title of the post in newest topics list and decide if I want to open it. I basically pay no attention to what category stuff is located.
Now my feed is filtered by the categories I've selected. I don't review posts by category, just in my feed.

No problem with the category.
Just wondering if policy was changed since I was attacked by admin for posting in the main vs photo category.

If you had read the entire thread, you would know the rule is in the Photo Gallery section rules. Why it isn't also in the Main Photography rules is a mystery.

Like I said, the list you referenced is global for the entire site.
Individual categories may vary.

The question is why the rule against sharing photos in the Main Photography section is only in the Photo Gallery rules and there are no specific rules for the Main Photography section so people don't know not to share photos (or post links) there.
When I log in, I come directly to the home page...the one that has the heading "Forum Sections." Not the "Newest Topics" or anywhere else. There's not a word about procedure or rules there, just my listing of subscribed sections, a list of who's logged in, and a list of who has a birthday today. There are no instructions or reminders of what each section is for, other than a vague, one-line promo message. There are no rules visible.
If this is a real problem, there are multiple quick and easy ways to fix it.

Each section has a set of rules in the first post, except for Main Photography.

Then why has admin been so rude in attacking one for posting photos in the main section in the past?
And again has the policy changed allowing just general photos to be posted in the main section.
If so then why would a photo section even be needed?

Do we know for sure that Admin isn't moving shared photos from Main Photography to the Photo Gallery any more? I do often see photos shared in Main Photography, but I haven't checked later to see if they have been moved. The policy is still listed in the Photo Gallery rules.
